FIRENZE MARATHON
Firenze Marathon is the premier running event of the Italian autumn. Traditionally held on the last Sunday of November, it is Italy’s second most important marathon in terms of participants and prestige, just behind the Rome Marathon.
Founded in 1984 with a first edition featuring just 850 pioneering runners, the event has experienced continuous and remarkable growth. By 2010, it had surpassed 10,000 participants, becoming a global event attracting athletes and amateurs from over 60 countries.
What makes the Firenze Marathon unique in the world is its course. Although the start and finish have varied over the years, passing through iconic locations such as Piazzale Michelangelo and Piazza San Giovanni, the heart of the event is now Piazza Duomo.
Running in Florence means brushing past Brunelleschi’s Dome, crossing Piazza della Signoria, and admiring the beauty of the Arno’s banks, all in a magical atmosphere enhanced by Tuscany’s autumn colors. The route is designed to be fast yet extremely scenic, offering runners the thrill of finishing in the monumental heart of the city.
