Villarreal Club de Fútbol is a Spanish professional football team founded in 1923 under the name Club Deportivo Villarreal. It is based in the city of Villarreal, in Castellón. Known as the Yellow Submarine, the club spent many years in the youth ranks before making its debut in the Primera División in 1998. Since 2013, Villarreal have competed in the top flight of Spanish football and have struggled to reach the top of the table. It particularly excelled in the 2007-08 season, when it finished second in La Liga, and was recognised as the World's Best Team of the Month in December 2004 by the IFFHS (International Federation of Football History and Statistics).

Villarreal's greatest achievement in European competition so far was winning the UEFA Europa League in the 2020-2021 season, marking the first major title at European level in the club's history.
