HELLAS VERONA F.C.
Hellas Verona Football Club, founded in 1903, is the leading football club in the city of Verona. The team competes in Italy’s top division, Serie A, and boasts a history marked by unexpected successes and a strong sporting tradition.
The club’s most successful period undoubtedly came during the 1980s. The pinnacle was reached in the 1984-85 season with a historic Serie A title, an achievement that makes Hellas Verona the only team from a non-regional capital city to have won the Italian championship since the introduction of the single-round league format.
The club’s “golden years” also saw Verona reach two Coppa Italia finals and compete several times in European competitions, including the prestigious European Cup. Verona is also one of the clubs with the highest number of appearances in the history of Serie B.
Verona’s colors are yellow and blue (often referred to as gold and light blue), directly reflecting the heraldic colors of the city of Verona’s coat of arms. The team is known as I Mastini and Gli Scaligeri.
The club crest is inspired by the heraldry of the Scaliger family. Today it features a stylized and symmetrical symbol of two powerful mastiff heads flanking the ladder, the historic emblem of the Scaligeri. This symbol is the club’s distinctive mark and also appears on the playing kit.
The official mascot, introduced more recently, is an anthropomorphic mastiff simply called “Mastino”.
