Feliciano López’s emotional farewell on his retirement

#JomaPlayer Feliciano López, one of Joma’s principal images in tennis, has announced his retirement aged 41, after 996 singles matches.

Known globally for the power of his left-hand, Feliciano López is one of the most long-lived players of Spanish and international tennis. Now, aged 41, the #JomaPlayer will retire after the Mallorca ATP.

The Toledan tennis player is leaving with no less than almost 1000 separate matches (in fact 996), of which 506 ended in victory, and with an enviable track record. Since playing his first tournament at just 16 years of age at the Conde de Godó Trophy of 1998, he has accumulated seven separate titles: Queen’s on grass (2017 y 2019), Gstaad on clay (2016), Eastbourne on grass (2013 y 2014), Johannesburg on hard court (2010) and Vienna on the same surface (2004). Four of these were on his favourite surface: grass, which he worked well with his defensive technique.

On the other hand, Feliciano López is one of the five tennis players to have struck more than 10,000 aces during their career, until being placed in the top 4. He also has 6 doubles titles, four Davis Cups and he was the first to compete in 79 consecutive Grand Slams.

In short, Feli López is leaving the courts with an impeccable curriculum, admired by the whole tennis world, and with the pride of his past and present official sponsorship brand for several years: Joma. Yesterday he received an emotional tribute in Mallorca from spectator-filled stands and surrounded by his family. There, he made it official that the end of his professional career was coming to an end. He is leaving as one of the greatest representatives of Spanish tennis.

The collaboration between Feliciano López and Joma

The relationship of trust between Feliciano López and Joma has been maintained over the years, coming into being in the field of sport with the brand as his official technical sponsor from 2008 to 2011 and from 2022 to 2023.

Both are united by their Toledan roots but, above all, their love for sport and the values it represents. The tennis player has achieved great milestones in his career while wearing his Joma kit at relevant national and international tournaments.

In particular, Feliciano López has made a great contribution to the development of Joma’s tennis footwear.  The fact that he has been able to play on the ATP circuit with the brand’s tennis shoes has been fundamental to the improvement of this type of product. For the company, it has been a great privilege and we will be eternally grateful. Thank you, Feli!
