STEFANO MAMMARELLA
Stefano Mammarella, born in Chieti on February 2, 1984, is considered one of the greatest futsal goalkeepers of all time. His story is remarkable: originally trained in handball, he brought to futsal an agility and goal-covering technique (the famous “cross”) that has become a reference for the sport. With his incredible reflexes and pinpoint distribution, he holds the record for most appearances in the history of the Italian National Futsal Team. He currently plays for Ecocity Futsal Genzano.
Mammarella is a true rarity in the world of Futsal Awards (the futsal equivalent of the Ballon d’Or), being named Best Goalkeeper in the World three times (2011, 2012, 2014).
His individual achievements include:
- Golden Glove at the 2012 Futsal World Cup
- Best Goalkeeper at the 2014 UEFA Futsal Championship
- Pallone Azzurro 2016
His club career is closely linked to his native Abruzzo. With Montesilvano, he achieved a legendary feat, winning the 2010-11 UEFA Futsal Cup (today’s Champions League), the only Italian club ever to do so. Later, he became the symbol of Acqua e Sapone, leading the team to a historic Serie A title and multiple Coppa Italia and Supercoppa victories.
An indispensable pillar of the Italian team for over a decade, his career highlight in the national jersey was the 2014 UEFA Futsal Championship in Antwerp.
