The new versions of the official trainer of the Movistar Madrid 1/2 Marathon 2023

For the 22nd edition of the Movistar Madrid 1/2 Marathon, Joma has changed the model twofold according to the pace of the runner.

The official Movistar Madrid 1/2 Marathon trainers will provide participants with the benefits they need depending on their pace. At Joma, we are aware of the variety of runners that attend a half marathon as famous as the one in Madrid. That’s why, here at Joma, we have decided to design two new models of trainer for the occasion which are tailored to the needs of each runner: Supercross and R.4000.

The Movistar Madrid Half Marathon is the most traditional athletics event in Madrid and one of the most important in Europe. With the new official trainers, participants will run through the landmarks of the Spanish capital throughout the 21,097 km, represented in a revamped design.

Design styled on the diversity of Madrid culture

Joma’s team of designers have taken inspiration from the diversity of the city of Madrid to create these trainers. The characteristic blue of the marathon accompanies a sequence of different characters that make up a whole: the word “MADRID”. With it, the goal is to convey the exclusivity of Madrid, one of the most multicultural places in the world.

Why have we made a shoe for every pace?

On the one hand, the Supercross will provide extra reactivity, stability and comfort to those with a slower pace (above 4 minutes/km). This type of athlete tends to heel more, hence they have a 10mm DROP and have the FULL DUAL PULSOR technology in the midsole. It is a double density system consisting of the revolutionary REACTIVE BALL on the bottom which absorbs the impact of the footstep and drives the exit. As a result, the additional benefit that the runner will gain from the Supercross trainer is a faster recovery after such a demanding marathon.

On the other hand, the R.4000, Joma’s top-of-the-range competition trainers, are focussed more towards “flying” runners who run at a pace of at least 4 minutes/km. They look like their foot doesn’t even touch the floor. For that reason, they need a lighter weight trainer, with reinforced tip to increase the durability in the area that comes into most contact with the tarmac. Its shock absorption and reactivity remain intact thanks to the FLY REACTIVE technology of the midsole, an extremely lightweight material.

This latter model is approved by World Athletics for participating in marathons, and they have been tested by professional athletes in national and international competitions, including the European Athletics Championships and the Olympic Games.

Two highly breathable, flexible and durable models

In the Movistar Madrid 1/2 Marathon trainers, the upper is manufactured in lightweight and flexible material, accompanied by VTS ventilation technology. JOMA’s SPORTECH system inserted in the seamless upper optimises the fit and hold without adding any extra weight.

Another characteristic is that the sole consists of DURABILITY rubber with a high resistance to abrasion on tarmac, situated in the areas that come into contact with the ground to retain the light weight. Equally, the FLEXO lines facilitate the naturalness and the transition of the footstep.
