Spanish tennis stood out this weekend with the successes of #JomaPlayers Jessica Bouzas in the WTA 125 in Antalya, and Pedro Martínez Portero in the ATP Challenger in Girona.

Pedro Martínez Portero conquers ATP Challenger in Girona

The Valencian opened his trophy cabinet this year by adding his sixth ATP Challenger trophy. Pedro Martínez achieved this at the #LaPiramideRFET by Mapfre Tournaments, giving Spanish tennis players the opportunity to compete in all categories. Thus, after playing the final at home, he defeated Moldovan world No. 155 Radu Albot 7-5 and 6-4 in 2 hours and 4 minutes. This is his sixth victory, the fifth on clay, after Bastad 2018, Marbella 2020, Seville 2021, Brest 2023, and Maspalomas 2023.

The event ended with Pedro climbing 11 positions in the world ranking, going from 88th to 76th, where he continues being one of the six Spaniards in the world Top 100.

Jessica Bouzas wins her first WTA 125

Jessica Bouzas is the great promise of Spanish women’s tennis. The Joma player lived her dreams by winning her first WTA 125 tournament in Antalya, Türkiye. The victory came after facing Romanian 126th in the world Irina-Camelia Begu 6-2, 4-6 and 6-2 in 2h 28 min, lifting three championship trophies in her first quarter of the year: Australia, Portugal, Mexico, the United States and Türkiye. A new demonstration that she is a tennis player who continues to progress in all aspects.

In fact, she is approaching the top one hundred positions in the world ranking. Currently holding the 104th position, 23 places better than the 127th she held until this Sunday. Bouzas now only has four Spaniards ahead of her to secure a spot at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
