Joma’s R line of running shoes, what is the difference between them?

The R line is Joma’s high-end competition running shoe par excellence. However, many running enthusiasts aren’t sure about the differences between the models. That’s not a problem, we’re here to clarify that in a moment. Keep reading and we’ll make sure that you are left without any doubts by the end of this post.

Here at Joma, alongside Runnea, we have analysed the differences between the R.5000, R.4000, R.3000 and, the newest addition, the R.2000 trainers. They do indeed all have something in common: their excellent value for money and the incorporation of the latest technology in the sports market. This has meant that the R’s are the favourites among more experienced runners, covering a wide range of profiles, uses and paces.

That said, it’s time to find out about the differences between the four models that make up Joma’s infamous R line. In this video, you can watch the Gorka Cabañas’ full interview with Fortu López, where the brand’s product manager presents the benefits of our flying trainers.

Although we are going to summarise it for you quickly and simply in this article. By following the recommendations and using these running shoes correctly, you will find out which suits your runner profile.

JOMA R.5000

This is a technical model specifically designed for competition. Its low profile makes this its only recommended use. With such a low drop (6 mm), this model is very fast, but aggressive and you could suffer significant injuries and muscle pains if you don’t have an excellent technique. Among other aspects, this is a very lightweight trainer thanks to the FOAM REACTIVE technology of the midsole and the breathable upper.

  • Low weight runners
  • Fast race pace (less than 4 minutes/kilometre)
  • Medium distances

JOMA R.4000

The R.4000 are mixed trainers, in other words, they are the midpoint between the flying trainers and those designed for training. Above all, they stand out for their versatility: they are the ideal height for running at your preferred pace and are suitable for both landing on the heel and on the mid-foot. Equally, you will be able to train at very high paces with them, compete and cover very different distances.

Their technical characteristics include offering good cushioning and reactivity with their FLY REACTIVE midsole, stability thanks to the STABILIS piece, and comfort from the padded heel and tongue.

  • Medium-low weight runners
  • Fast race pace (less than 4 minutes/kilometre)
  • Medium distances and marathon

JOMA R.3000

The R.3000 are Joma’s first trainers with a carbon fibre plate. Their race efficiency and improvement in performance of almost 2.5% have been proven by studies carried out by the University of Castilla-La Mancha. They are designed for runners with a defined technique who want to fly on the tarmac and feel the rocking effect of the plate. Additionally, these trainers are very lightweight and breathable.

  • Medium-low weight runners
  • Fast race pace (less than 4 minutes/kilometre)
  • Medium distances and marathon

Joma R.2000

And now we reach the most comfortable and multipurpose running shoes that Joma has created to date: the R.2000. Designed for different uses: long training runs, post-competition recovery, or even for preparing for an upcoming competition.

They stand out for their enormous rear reactivity thanks to the FOAM REACTIVE foam and the comfort and stability of the phylon at the front.

  • Medium-low weight runners
  • They adapt to any pace and distance
