FC Istiklol, team sponsored by Joma, has won the Silver Medal in the AFC Cup. FC Istiklol coach, Mubin Ergashev, was left lamenting his team’s inability to convert their chances after Johor Darul Ta’zim claimed the AFC Cup with a 1-0 win over the Tajik side on Saturday.
Argentinian midfielder Leandro Velazquez scored the only goal of the final, but Istiklol squandered a number of opportunities to put themselves on the score sheet.
Istiklol were in the ascendancy for much of the game and had the better of the chances in the opening quarter before Johor scored in the 23rd minute when Velazquez capitalised on the home side’s inability to clear Safiq Rahim’s corner. Istiklol were incapable of finding a way through against a determined Johor defence.
Although FC Istiklol could not score any goal, it is a great news that one Joma’s team has won the Silver Medal the AFC Cup, the most important soccer competition from Asia.
