Carreño lifts doubles crown at Rio Open

Pablo Carreño played some the best tennis of his career to become doubles champion at the Rio Open in Brazil at the weekend. Sponsored by Joma, third-seeded Carreño and partner Pablo Cuevas beat Colombian duo Cabal and Farah in three sets 6-4, 5-7, 10-8 in a match that lasted one hour and 29 minutes.

Unfortunately Carreño was unable to lift his second title at the Rio Open as he narrowly fell to world number 8, Dominic Thiem in the singles final, 7-5, 6-4. The match was a tightly fought contest which ultimately was won by small margins.

The Rio Open success has seen Carreño reach number 23 on the ATP Tour official rankings; the best position of his career so far. This week, Carreño arrives in Sao Paulo as the first seed and hopes to continue his excellent form.
