Carreño goes into US Open quarter-finals

Joma player is in quarter-finals for the US Open for second time, this one due to Djokovic disquaslifying for his unsporting behaviour. His next rival will be Denis Shapovalov.

After Carreño Busta broke the Serbian’s serve to go ahead with an advantage of 6-5 in the first set, Djokovic throw a ball to one lineswoman. After a long discussion between Djokovic and the tpournament officials, the game ended.

Carreño was asked about the incidence and he stated: ‘Of course I think this was not intentional. I don’t think any of the players would do these things intentionally, It’s just the moment… But you can’t do that. Of course, I think Novak never wanted to hit the lineswoman’.

The USTA issued a press release reading: ‘Following the Grand Slam regulations, after his actions ofintentionally hitting a ball in a dangerous or reckless way inside the court or hitting a ball not taking into consideration the consequences, the tournament referee for US Open has disqualified Novak Djokovic from US Open 2020. Due to his disqualification, Djokovic will loose all the points won in the US Open and will be fined with the cash reward won in the tournament together with any other fines imposed regarding the incident’.

Carreño is in quarter-finals for the second time. In 2017, he reached the semifinals before loosing against Kevin Anderson. Now he will face Denis Shapovalov in his third quarter-finals in a Grand Slam.
