
Ruth Beitia
Ruth Beitia Vila is an athlete who competed in athletics in the high jump. She is the only Spanish athlete to win an Olympic gold medal.
She participated in four Summer Olympic Games, winning a gold medal in Rio de Janeiro 2016 and a bronze medal in London 2012. The latter was awarded to her in 2021, following the final disqualification for doping of another athlete. He won a medal at the 2013 World Athletics Championships, and four medals at the World Indoor Athletics Championships.
At continental level, she won three medals at the European Athletics Championships between 2012 and 2016, and seven medals at the European Athletics Indoor Championships between 2005 and 2017. In 2015 she became the first Spanish athlete to win the Diamond League, a title she retained in 2016.
On 18 October 2017, she announced her retirement, following physical problems due to rheumatoid arthritis. Her personal best was 2.02m outdoors and 2.01m indoors.
She is an ambassador for the NGO Padres 2.0.
